Mei-Do

A musical with a pop score

Music, lyrics and book by Emily Xu Hall

When Etsuko decides to work at a maid café, she creates a character for herself that leads her down a path she never thought she’d explore.

Mei-Do is set in Akihabara, Tokyo. It’s a musical with a pop music/EDM score. Having trouble pronouncing the name of this play? It’s “maid” with an o on the end!

Mei-Do was developed at Rising Circle Rep, where Emily was one of the four INKtank playwrights to develop her play over 8 weeks. It was presented in an early draft as I Am This For You at Ars Nova as part of ANT Fest 2018. Ars Nova is one of the leading theatres in New York supporting new work. They have supported and produced works such as Dave Malloy's Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.

Mei-Do was developed at Rising Circle and P73 Interstate 73 Writers’ Group.
